6/10/2011 9:21:00 AM School board to act on several coaching vacancies
The consent agenda portion of the Windom school board meeting Monday night will be dominated by personnel moves -- most notably changes to the coaching staffs of several WAHS sports. The board will accept resignations from junior high football coach Bryan Joyce and assistant cross country coach Steve Kuntz. New head coaches scheduled to be hired include: * Melissa Pletcher, cross country. Pletcher is a current specialized reading instructor at the Windom Area School District. She is a Windom native and a former Eagle cross country standout who qualified for state in her career. She also qualified for the NCAA Division III cross country meet while running for Hamline University. She will be assisted by Kylie Nielsen, who will also be hired at Monday's meeting. * Dean Drahota, girls hockey. Drahota is no stranger to the Eagle girls hockey program. The former assistant coach took over as interim head coach when Shawn Veenker resigned part-way through the season last year. * Jon Ammerman, boys hockey. Ammerman is being hired to fill a social studies teaching vacancy. He played collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University and played in the state high school tournament three times while at Moorhead High School. He was an All-WCHA Academic selection while at SCSU. The lone varsity head coaching position that will remain open after the meeting is the head girls basketball position. A decision on that position could be made once other teaching positions are finalized.
