10/23/2020 1:18:00 PM BREAKING NEWS: RRC High School to go into distance learning, shut down sports for two weeks
Incidences of COVID-19 within the school have prompted Red Rock Central High School to go into a distance learning model, beginning Monday.
RRC also is cancelling its varsity football and volleyball events from Oct. 23 through Nov. 4.
An e-mail from Activities Director Brett Bartholomaus states that the school is employing distance learning at the high school for two weeks for all students in grades 7-12. Students in grades PreK-6 will remain in-person.
"In order to do our part to keep our kids, families, teams and communities safe, Red Rock Central has made the difficult decision to cancel or reschedule varsity volleyball and football events scheduled from Oct. 23 through Nov. 4," the e-mail states. "This decision was arrived by our learing of COVID-related contacts within our school. We want everyone to know we are following the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota State High School League."
The e-mail added, "Please understand, the district made this decision for the safety of everyone, and this is not a mandated shut-down from any of the health entities."
Bartholomaus said that, in addition to previously-announced football schedule changes, the following changes are being made to the volleyball schedule:
* Varsity VB at Edgerton, scheduled for Oct. 24, has been postponed. Jr. High volleyball at Edgerton for Oct. 24 is still on, 1:15 p.m. start. * Jr. High VB vs. HLOF at Heron Lake, scheduled for Oct. 27, postponed to Nov. 10. * Varsity VB vs. Edgerton, scheduled for Oct. 29, postponed. * Jr. High VB vs. Edgerton, scheduled for Oct. 29, will now start at 4:30 p.m. * Varsity VB vs. HLOF at Okabena, scheduled for Oct. 31, postponed to Nov. 20. * Varsity VB will resume Nov. 5 against Adrian-Ellsworth at Adrian. * Varsity VB matches against Edgerton will be rescheduled as a doubleheader on Nov. 7: C-squad, 1 p.m.; B-squad, 2 p.m.; Varsity match 1, 3:30 p.m.; varsity match 2, 5 p.m. If the MSHSL does not allow the Nov. 7 doubleheader, an alternate date will try to be found.
