County hears report on possible grant

Cottonwood County Commissioners heard a report on a possible grant to help pay for future repairs to County Road 2.

Highway Engineer Nick Klisch told the board the application deadline is September, with notification in October of grant awards.

Increased traffic from Red Rock Quarry and farmers hauling grain to the POET Biorefining plant has caused the road to deteriorate. Klisch said that the grant could allow the work on the road to be done in either 2022 or 2023. However, commissioners questioned if it would be more feasible to try to complete the project as early as 2021. Klisch recommended waiting to see if the county receives a grant before planning.

More on the story appears in the Aug. 5 print edition of the Citizen.
