6/5/2020 11:39:00 AM BREAKING NEWS: Windomnet internet connection to Minneapolis restored
Windomnet Manager Jeff Dahna said Windomnet's internet connection to Minneapolis was restored at 12:30 p.m., today.
Dahna said Zayo, Windomnet's internet transport provider, continued to work on the repair of the fiber optic cable that was damaged. Zayo estimated the repairs would be completed and local connection restored some time between 1:30 and 2 p.m., today (Friday), but had the connection operating an hour earlier.
Dahna also said that local TV channel feeds from the Twin Cities are now back on the system and internet connections reestablishing with Minneapolis data center.
The fiber optic cable that supplies Windomnet with its internet connection was cut somewhere between Windom and Minneapolis at about 3 p.m., yesterday. That connection is Windomnet's primary connection. When the cut occurred, Windomnet switched to its secondary connection for internet service in Omaha, Neb.
However, the fiber optic cable to Minneapolis supplied Windomnet TV customers with such Twin Cities TV channels as WCCO, KSTP and KARE11. Consequently, those channels were lost. But they were restored at 12:30 p.m., today.
