6/3/2020 4:56:00 PM Relay For Life to decorate BARC
At this point, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cottonwood County Relay For Life Committee is not planning to host a traditional Relay For Life event in 2020.
But Relay For Life still will be a presence in the county.
Last year, the event was moved to a new location and date - the grounds of the Business, Arts & Recreation Center in Windom on Aug. 3.
In place of the Relay in 2020, Mary Schaufenbuel, who is again heading up the committee, says they are not only planning Cottonwood County vs. Cancer events throughout the county, but also decorating the Relay's new location, BARC, to keep cancer survivors on everyone's minds throughout the summer.
"We are sending a message of hope to all survivors and caregivers by having a display on the BARC grounds. We encourage everyone to walk or drive by the BARC," Schaufenbuel says. "We are able to leave this up for awhile and change and add information on the American Cancer Society as the summer goes on."
Schaufenbuel and Theesfeld are keeping mostly hush-hush about what is planned, but they did indicate that the decorations will include lights and recognition of the various cancers of Cottonwood County cancer survivors.
Theesfeld said the committee hopes to have the decorations up by Saturday.
