5/22/2020 5:00:00 PM County plans to open campgrounds June 1
Cottonwood County is making plans to open its campgrounds to daily overnight parking, beginning Monday.
At Friday's special meeting, commissioners heard from Public Works Director Nick Klisch, who said that the Stay Safe MN order allows daily overnight camping, beginning June 1.
Klisch said that, for now, plans are to keep playgrounds and shelter houses closed. However, that could change.
Commissioner Donna Gravley noted that under the executive order by Gov. Tim Walz, playgrounds are being allowed to open. Emergency Manager Paul Johnson stated that it is still recommended that playgrounds stay closed because of the possibility they could attract groups larger than 10 people. Klisch added that compliance is ultimately up to each individual.
Klisch added that staff is being directed to inspect and clean bathroom facilities more frequently.
Klisch added that the county lost about $2,700 in cancelled camping reservations from Memorial Day weekend. He added that campers can book reservations on the county's website and that guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control regarding COVID-19 are listed on the website.
