5/20/2020 12:00:00 PM No new Cottonwood County COVID-19 cases in Wednesday update
Cottonwood and Jackson counties both reported no new cases of COVID-19 in Wednesday's daily Minnesota Department of Health update. Cottonwood County remained at 59 cases, while Jackson County remained at 36.
Des Moines Health and Human Services said that of the 59 cases in the county, eight are considered active "in the 10-day isolation period" while 51 cases are outside the 10-day isolation period. In Jackson County, 34 of the 36 cases are outside the 10-day isolation period.
Around the region, the number of new confirmed cases has slowed. Nobles County reports 1,396 cases of the virus and two deaths. Martin County remained at 123 cases with five deaths. Watonwan County increased to 42 cases. Murray County remained at 33 cases. Brown County remained at 10 cases and two deaths. Redwood County remained at three cases.
Four counties in the state currently report no cases of the virus: Cook, Lake of the Woods, Hubbard and Stevens. The state reports 17,670 cases and 777 deaths. Of those deaths, 635 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. It also lists nine probable COVID-19 deaths, where the virus is listed on the death certificate but a positive test was not documented.
MDH also reports that 2,025 health care workers in the state have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 12,227 patients state-wide who have recovered. There have been 2,308 hospitalized for the virus, with 550 currently hospitalized and 212 currently in intensive care.
The state reports 167,338 tests for COVID-19 having been performed in the state.
