Rep. Hamilton sees surplus as big issue as session begins

As the Minnesota legislative session begins this week, lawmakers are already hearing about key issues, such as the state's $1.3 billion budget surplus.

"Any surplus is good news," Hamilton wrote in a recent op-ed piece for the Citizen. "In reality, we're getting to the point where seeing a budget surplus is no longer a surprise. Because of this, I believe we need to explore more ways to provide tax relief to working families and senior citizens.
Now is not the time to permanently expand government spending with new programs, we should be exploring ways that allow residents to keep more of their paychecks."
