First baby of new year finally arrives at WAH
The Birth Place at Windom Area Health was no doubt beginning to wonder if the proverbial stork had left the local hospital off its list of deliveries in 2020. After all, it had been three weeks since the dawn of a new year and yet not one new bundle of joy had been delivered at WAH.
That changed at 1:08 a.m., Jan. 21, when Russell Harvey Burmeister came into the world. The 8 lb., 15 oz., baby boy was born to Katie and Landon Burmeister of Lakefield. And, as Harry Chapin sang in his 1970s hit, Russell "came to the world in the usual way" - however, four days past his scheduled due date.
Russell is welcomed home by two big brothers: Clayton, 4; and Brenner, 1.
Grandparents are Joel and Debra Burmeister of Lakefield and Marlow Jurgens of Windom. Great-grandmothers are Pearl Swanson and Marianne Burmeister, both of Lakefield.
While it took three weeks for Windom Area Health to celebrate its first baby of the new year, ironically two babies were born at the hospital on New Year's Eve.
