10/31/2019 9:24:00 PM School officials: "Rumors of threat are unfounded"
Windom school officials are informing local residents that rumors of a threat in one of the schools are unfounded.
School officials investigated the rumors over the past several days and are now concerned that false information has raised concerns among residents. As a result, Windom Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt authorized the following letter to the public:
"Good Afternoon Everyone.
"As many of you are aware, we had a rumor of a threat that was fully investigated and found unsubstantiated. We assure you we will communicate immediately if any concerns arise.
"We will be evaluating our communication with this rumor in comparison with any past events. If you have any questions please contact Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt at 507-831-6901 extension 502 or via cell at 507-822-0711.
"Below you will find the email sent to staff: As many of you are aware, there is a rumor afloat of a potential threat. This rumor is, in every sense, a rumor.
"Here is what we know and has taken place to this point: 1) A student report to administration at the MSHS of a potential threat on social media - over a week ago. 2) Administration researched the report, including completing our threat assessment protocol, which involves engaging with our SRO (School Resource Officer and law enforcement, school psychologist, crisis team members and mental health resources. 3) All parties named as witnesses to having seen the rumored threat were interviewed. 4) No factual evidence has been found at any point in the process.
"For more information on process please see Wayne's Facebook post from Oct. 28.
"We take the safety of all students and staff very seriously. As such, this rumored threat has been vetted thoroughly and researched extensively. Had an actual piece of hard evidence been produced, we can assure you the staff, students and parents would have been notified immediately and appropriate measures would have been taken.
"We appreciate all the alerts made to administration regarding this rumor. At this time, if you hear any students or other staff talking about this matter please inform them that if they possess any factual evidence they need to contact administration immediately. Rumors of this magnitude are not helpful and should not continue to circulate, please do your best to regulate talk of this rumor.
"If you have any questions please speak directly with administration.
