Down 220 lbs.: Local member's weight loss is second in TOPS International
Kim Bramstedt saw a friend, whom she hadn't seen for a time, at an area parade this summer and went to talk to her. As Kim spoke, the woman had a look on her face that said, "Who are you?"
Shortly thereafter, Kim ran into the same woman again and the woman apologized for her standoffish attitude.
"She said, 'I'm sorry, I just didn't know who you were at first. I didn't recognize you,' " Kim relates. "People don't know me in town and they're people I see all the time."
There's a reason: The 56-year-old Windom woman is less than half the woman she was. From her heaviest weight in 2014, Kim has dropped 220 pounds and trimmed over 152 inches from her body over the past five years.
Kim has been a member of the Windom chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly, or TOPS, for the past five years. While she lost a little weight before joining TOPS, a vast majority of those 220 pounds was lost while with the local chapter and most of that was lost in the last two-plus years.
However, it was the 136.5 pounds she lost from 2017 to 2018 that has brought her some well-deserved praise. That weight loss was the most by any Minnesota woman in TOPS in 2018. She was honored at the state meeting in St. Cloud in May.
But the honors didn't stop there. In July, Kim traveled to Portland, Ore., for TOPS International's 2019 annual meeting, where her 2018 weight loss was second among all TOPS women in the U.S. and Canada.
