River begins to recede
Heavy rainfall in the past week has caused the Des Moines River in Windom to rise. But as of Friday morning, the river begins to be receding somewhat.
The river level in Windom climbed over four feet from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon. However, the river level crested at 15.47 feet early Thursday evening and has begun to recede. As of 9 a.m. today, the level of the river was 15.15 feet.
Recent heavy rainfall to the west, in areas closer to the headwaters of the river, mean the potential for another rise in the river exists in the coming days.
The Windom gauge for the Des Moines River is located on the County Road 15 bridge near the Windom Country Club.
