Mt. Lake city council OKs new chicken-friendly ordinance

The decision was made - although it was not an easy one - backyard chickens will be allowed in Mt. Lake.

Three readings and a public hearing were part of the requirements for amending the city's animal regulation that would allow no more than four chickens to be on one lot in residential zoned areas of the city. Lots of discussion and many questions came up during the public hearing that was held during Monday evening's Mt. Lake City Council meeting.

Mayor Mike Nelson closed the hearing and council members made a few changes in the proposed amendment. The number of chickens or hen bantams allowed on a lot was increased from four to six.

For much more on this story, see the Aug. 7 Mt. Lake-Butterfield Observer/Advocate.
