RIVER UPDATE: River drops below 17 feet
For the first time since the spring flooding almost two months ago, the West Fork of the Des Moines River has dropped below 17 feet.
As of 2 p.m. today (Tuesday), the West Fork of the Des Moines in Windom is at 16.88 feet. That drops the river below action stage, which is 17 feet, and is now 2 feet below flood stage, which is 19 feet.
The river, measured at the County Road 15 bridge near the Windom Country Club, has been on a steady decline over the last two weeks, leveling off briefly Friday and Saturday before continuing its decline.
Unless the river takes a sharp rise after forecasted rains tonight and tomorrow, this may be the final Citizen Online river update for the foreseeable future.
