Shopko announces pending closure of all stores in bankruptcy proceedings

Bankruptcy proceedings for the Shopko corporation will result in a significant hole in the Windom business community.

On Monday, Green Bay, Wisc.-based Shopko announced that all its remaining stores that had not previously been slated for closure, including the Windom location, will close by June 16 and all assets from the stores will be liquidated.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that the company stated in a release that it had been unable to find a buyer. The company had scheduled an auction for Tuesday, but the auction was cancelled and liquidation proceedings were scheduled to begin.

Other Shopko locations that had previously been slated to remain open included Marshall, Fairmont, Pipestone, Mankato and Sioux Falls. Locations in St. James and Worthington had previously been announced for closure.
