7/10/2018 7:09:00 AM Des Moines River continues to drop; City leaders urge residents to not move sandbags
Island Park as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday,
By early this morning, the Des Moines River had receded significantly from last week's crest of more than 23.3 feet.
It was measured at 22.3 feet at 5 a.m. Moderate flood stage is 21 feet.
That is still above the moderate flood stage of 21 feet, however. Still, city officials advise residents to take no chances.
During the Windom city council's final public update meeting on Monday afternoon, Windom Fire Chief Dan Ortmann offered this advice to the public: "We still want your sandbags to stay in place from the time of the event (July 6) for two weeks so we can get the water receding a little more."
