Falcons top Coyotes in five-set thriller

RRC 18-26-25-21-15 = 3
HLOF 25-24-16-25-12 = 2

The Red Rock Central volleyball team ended the 2020 season with a bang Friday, knocking Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda from the ranks of the unbeaten with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Okabena.

HLOF won the opening set of the match and held the lead in the set two, but the Falcons stormed back, eventually winning the second set 26-24. RRC then captured set three 25-16 to go up 2-1.

The Coyotes answered, rallying in the fourth set to claim a 25-21 win. But RRC raced to a quick lead in the final set, then held off a late Coyote rally to claim a 15-12 win.

Karli Arkell led the Falcons at the net with 21 kills and a season-high four solo blocks. Nicole Schroepfer added 17 kills and Josie Horning finished with five kills.

Kennedy Vold led the Falcons at the service line, going 18-of-18 with an ace. Lilly Stavnes was 25-of-27 with an ace and Biance Weis went 17-of-18 with an ace.

Schroepfer finished with 16 set assists. Arkell added 10 assists. Weis tallied a team-high 29 digs. Schroepfer added 15 digs, which put her over the 1,000 career digs mark in her final high school match.
