9/15/2020 1:45:00 PM County board votes down auditor/treasurer deputy
Cottonwood County Commissioners voted down a proposal to fill a vacant deputy position in the county auditor/treasurer's office.
Earlier in the meeting, the board approved a transfer of deputy auditor/treasurer Susan Ebeling to the public works department as an accounting assistant.
The board then discussed internally posting the vacant deputy position in the auditor/treasurer's office. Auditor/Treasurer Donna Torkelson noted that with the election and second-half taxes in the near future, it would be difficult to get everything done with a reduced staff. Torkelson added that the office also had reduced from four deputies to three deputies and a technician as a cost-saving move.
However, Commissioner Larry Andersen questioned why the office had lost three long-time employees in just over a year's time. The board voted down a motion to post the vacancy internally on a 3-2 vote, with Andersen, Tom Appel and Kevin Stevens voting against the measure.
The board then voted to add a temporary technician for the auditor/treasurer's office to assist until the end of the year. That motion passed on a 3-2 vote, with Donna Gravley and Norm Holmen voting against.
