Windom Area 2-0-2 = 4 Waseca 0-2-1 = 3 The Windom Area girls hockey team saw a pair of leads fall by the wayside Saturday afternoon.
But a goal by freshman Madelyn Schumacher with 3:23 left on the clock gave the Eagles a lead they wouldn't relinquish in a 4-3 victory at Waseca.
The win was the first of the season for the Eagle girls.
The Eagles got off to a solid start with good offensive pressure in the first period. Windom Area scored a pair of goals in the final minute of the period, with Marissa Becker finding the back of the net twice. Madyson Fredin assisted on the first goal, with Elly Bang assisting on the second goal, giving Windom Area a 2-0 lead.
Waseca battled back, scoring twice in the second period to tie the game. But the Eagles regained the lead early in the third period, as Bang took a feed from Abby Ignaszewski and slammed home a goal with 14:10 left in regulation.
Waseca tied the game wtih 4:14 to go in the game, but less than a minute later, Bang fed the puck to the point, where Schumacher blasted a shot past the Bluejay goalie for the game-winner.
Waseca outshot the Eagles 26-24 in the game. Eagle goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 23 saves in the win.
