7/18/2019 9:26:00 AM Shideler steps in as Gathering Church campus pastor
What you need to know about Randy Shideler, the new pastor at Gathering Church in Bingham Lake, is that he's an open book.
If you don't believe it, he's eager to share his faith journey that took him from a life of drugs and alcohol to a pastor.
Pastor Randy took over for Kent Houppert earlier this month. His role is a little different from a typical church pastor. The non-denominational Gathering Church downloads the Saturday evening message from Eaglebrook Church, with several campuses throughout the Twin Cities, and streams that during their Sunday morning service. Shideler, meanwhile, is the face of the church, leading Sunday morning services as the local campus pastor.
However, he has a much more important role in the church.
"One of our biggest goals is just reaching out to the community," he says, noting that community includes Windom, Mt. Lake and Jackson, as well as Bingham Lake. "We bought our house in Mt. Lake; we're going to build community relationships there. We're sending our kids to Windom (schools)to build relationships and community there as well.
"So, it's reaching out to the community and letting them know that this is a place for people to come, where it's OK to not be OK. We're just trying to make sure you don't stay that way. We want to walk with you through your life and lead you to Jesus. But we don't stop there. It's taking the next step and deepening that relationship and that walk."
