RV 0-0-1 = 1 Windom Area 2-2-1 = 5 The Windom Area boys hockey team went over the .500 mark for the first time this season Thursday night, claiming a 5-1 victory over Redwood Valley at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles scored the game's first five goals while keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard until the final minutes of the game.
Alex Espenson got the Eagles on the scoreboard 3:45 into the game with a power play goal, assisted by Kyle Espenson. Then, later in the first period, Kyle Espenson gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Tanner Pigman and Alex Espenson assisted on the play.
Early in the second, Kyle Espenson took a feed from Tylan Porath and raced past the Cardinal defense, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Then, at the 9:53 mark of the period, Mikal Anderson scooped up a rebound in front of the net, giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Wyatt Haugen and Eli Becker assisted.
Windom's final goal came halfway through the third period, when Keaton Storm rebounded a point shot from Matt Stubbe and stuffed in the goal.
Windom Area outshot Redwood Valloey 28-21 in the game. Eagle goalie Josiah Quintero finished with 20 saves in the win.
