11/7/2018 4:15:00 PM Senior project: Preserve Pat's Grove icon
If you've ever visited Pat's Grove Park west of Windom, you can't help but notice the ancient stone house located along the park's path.
It's an iconic piece of the park - but it's also 118 years old and sorely in need of repairs.
The structure will get those repairs if two longtime residents of the Pat's Grove neighborhood, as well as a county commissioner, have anything to say about it.
Windom Area High School senior Ashley Soleta and longtime resident Leann Johnson have lived in the Pat's Grove neighborhood much, if not all, of their lives. They have enjoyed the simple pleasures the park offers and appreciate the history of the park's stone house.
Johnson and Soleta put their heads together about what they could do to repair the building.
The project got more support when Cottonwood County Commissioner Jim Schmidt volunteered his help.
