5/17/2018 10:07:00 AM County officials: 'Pat's Grove was briefly mentioned'
It seems a single sentence in last week's Citizen regarding county parks has created a bit of a stir, locally.
County officials are hopeful that residents will not jump to conclusions regarding a potential sale of county parks, particularly Pat's Grove Park. County Coordinator Kelly Thongvivong told Citizen Online today that although Pat's Grove was one of two parks mentioned to be considered for sale, there has been nothing to suggest that the sale of Pat's Grove is under strong consideration.
A news release from the county offered some history and clarification to the matter:
"In 2014, Cottonwood County took sealed bids for Highwater Park northwest of Jeffers and Sara Park on Lake Augusta. Highwater Park was sold, but Sara Park was not sold due to bids not meeting the reserve price.
"In 2015, the county also gifted Dynamite Park to the City of Windom. The discussion at the last board meeting began by revisiting the sale of Sara Park due to numerous inquiries. The discussion expanded to look at other county parks that may be underutilized in order to be fiscally responsible. Pat's Grove was briefly mentioned in the discussion. The thought is that the proceeds from the sale of any county parks would be used to improve remaining county parks."
Nothing was finalized at last week's meeting regarding the sale of county parks.
