Des Moines River nearing flood stage

A week of steady, relatively-heavy rainfall has caused area rivers to rise.

The Des Moines River in Windom is on the rise again after reaching a crest on Wednesday.

The river's current level is at 17 feet, 8 inches. Flood stage in Windom is at 19 feet.

Meanwhile, the Cottonwood River near Lamberton could also be on the rise again after reaching a crest of 13.44 feet on Wednesday. While there is no official measurement of flood stage of the Cottonwood River by Lamberton, hydrology reports from the National Weather Service indicate that the record flood level at that point is 17 feet, 6 inches.
