BREAKING: City of Butterfield water boil advisory lifted

A water main break in Butterfield on Thursday left the city under a water boil advisory through the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The main break was discovered on First Street North in Butterfield on Thursday, after the city received several complaints about extremely low water pressure. Water pressure in the city was already low due to a maintenance and painting project on the water tower, but the complaints noted pressure had dropped significantly lower.

The Minnesota Department of Health Water Protection Service issued the water boil advisory, stating that the low water pressure could result in possible bacteria growth. The boil advisory remained in place until sample testing could determine no threat to the public.

On Monday afternoon, city officials were notified of sample testing results from MDH, which deemed no threat of bacteria growth in the city's water supply. As a result, the water boil advisory was lifted.
