Clock strikes 12 as NLS tops Eagles for section title

Windom 23-22 = 45
NLS 26-41 = 67

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team put up a fight in the Section 3AA championship game against state-ranked New London-Spicer, but a second-half burst propelled the Wildcats to a 67-45 victory over the Eagles in Marshall, sending NLS to the state tournament.

Windom trailed by three at halftime, but tied the game at 29-29 early in the second half behind an Allison Letcher basket and a pair of Autumn Hauge buckets. Hauge's basket with 16:05 to go tied the game.

But NLS used a 22-3 run over the next six minutes, scoring inside and outside and getting the Eagles into foul trouble in the process. A bucket by Hauge at the 10:42 mark snapped the Wildcat run, but the Eagles were unable to cut into the deficit, as NLS went 14-of-19 from the free throw line in the second half to seal the victory.

Letcher led the Eagles with 12 points in the loss. Hauge added 10 points. Shelby Erickson and Gracie Bucher each scored eight.
