Wolverine girls advance; Falcons knocked out

MCW 12-16 = 28
MLAC 22-25 = 47

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey's defense dominated the game Monday as the Wolverines opened the Section 2A playoffs with a 47-28 win over Martin County West in Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines held MCW to 12 field goals for the game, slowly pulling away in the second half for the victory.

MCW was effective at clogging the lane against the Wolverines, freeing up room for the Wolverines on the outside. Margo Stoesz led all players with 14 points. Sophie Carrison and Anika Fast each chipped in nine points.

RRC 22-23 = 45
HBC 27-38 = 65

Hills-Beaver Creek slowly imposed its offensive will in the second half Friday, pulling away to defeat Red Rock Central 65-45 in the Section 3A playoffs.

The Falcons were able to pound the ball into the lane early, as 16 first-half points from Karli Arkell helped keep RRC afloat. HBC held a five-point halftime lead.

But in the second half, HBC's pressure defense took a toll on the Falcons, as RRC committed 33 turnovers in the game, with many coming in the second half.

Arkell finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds in the Falcon loss. Nicole Schropfer added six points.
