Tigers race past Eagle boys

Springfield relentlessly attacked the basket Thursday night, blowing things open early and rolling to a 96-45 victory over the Windom Eagles at Windom.

The Tigers used a 10-0 run early in the game to establish the lead, then blew things open with harassing defense and a dominant performance on the glass. The Tigers outrebounded the Eagles 56-16 in the game, grabbing 27 offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Springfield shot 53% from the field while holding the Eagles to 29% for the game.

Austin Doorenbos led Windom with 15 points. Sam Doorenbos added nine points in the loss.

HBC 23-30-11 = 64

Red Rock Central saw a 12-point second half lead evaporate Thursday, as Hills-Beaver Creek rallied to force overtime. The Patriots then took an early lead in overtime and sealed the game from the free throw line, edging the Falcons 64-63 at Hills.

HBC marched to the free throw line in the second half, but went 13-of-26 in the second half, while RRC did not make a free throw in the half until overtime. The Patriots' defensive pressure in the second half forced a handful of Falcon turnovers, allowing HBC to outscore the Falcons 30-24, sending the game to overtime tied 53-53.

In overtime, HBC worked the ball inside for three quick buckets, then scored its last three points from the line while RRC's comeback bid fell short.

Sam Helmer and Dominik Smith each scored 17 points in the loss for the Falcons. Jonah Hansen added 14 points.
