TUESDAY SOCCER: Historic win for Wings girls, boys fall to Trojans

Wings United 3-1 = 4
Worthington 0-1 = 1

The Wings United girls soccer team broke out of a scoring drought in a big way Tuesday, capturing a 4-1 victory over Worthington at Windom.

The Wings broke through in the opening 10 minutes of the game, as Evelin Montoya found the back of the net on a rebound shot.

Montoya was far from done, though. Less than three minutes later, Montoya received a pass on a two-on-one break and chipped a shot over the Trojan goalie into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Then, late in the half, Montoya won a race to a loose ball and slid a shot past a diving Trojan keeper, giving the Wings a 3-0 lead. It also marked the first time a Wings girl had ever recorded a hat trick.

But, for good measure, Montoya added her fourth goal of the game early in the second half, scoring on a free kick from just outside the penalty area.
