GIRLS SOCCER: Wings blank Trojans for first victory

Worthington 0-0 = 0
Wings United 1-1 = 2

The Wings United girls soccer team used consistent offensive pressure Thursday to pick up its first victory of the season, winning 2-0 at Worthington.

The Wings fired 15 shots on goal in the game and controlled possession of the ball for much of the contest.

Late in the first half, the Wings had a corner kick. A scramble in front of the net saw Yesica Perez boot the ball past the Trojan goalkeeper for a 1-0 Wings lead.

The Trojans had a chance to tie the game early in the second half when the Wings were whistled for a foul inside the penalty area. However, the Trojans’ penalty kick sailed high over the crossbar of the goal, leaving the Wings in the lead.

Catalina Perez kept the Trojans off the scoreboard in the first half, while Dayana Vivas played in net part of the second half, before Perez re-entered the game late.

With just over six minutes left in regulation, the Wings pushed the ball quickly up the field, with Evelin Montoya blasting a shot over the Trojan keeper for the final goal of the game.

Catalina Perez and Vivas combined for nine saves in the victory.
