Windom Mayor Hilary Mathis has vetoed a recent city council decision to sell Windomnet to Federated Rural Electric and Broadband.
There will be a reading of the resolution at the Sept. 1 meeting followed by a vote on the resolution. A four-fifths vote will be needed to override the veto. Based on past votes, it is anticipated that the override will fail.
The city council will then need to discuss its next actions regarding the city’s fiber-to-the-home network. A few of the many options are to keep Windomnet as a city-owned utility, vote on whether to accept a different offer, or possibly seek revised offers.
The next scheduled meeting is Sept. 1. Three council members and the mayor can call for a special meeting, but there would have to be publicized for three days before the meeting could be held.
