Mt. Lake man charged with felony assault

Jaylee Farley, a 22-year-old Mt. Lake man, has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of domestic assault by strangulation in Cottonwood County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint, on July 31, a party drove up to a Mt. Lake police officer on patrol to report a domestic assault on behalf of a female friend, stating the friend had called and said her boyfriend had punched her head and tried to choke her. The reporting party added that the boyfriend, Farley, had fled out the fire escape and was in the area on foot.

The officer went to the victim’s residence and spoke to the victim. The victim stated she and Farley argued. When she tried to push him away, he struck her twice in the back of the head with a multi-tool. After she fell to the floor, Farley put his hands on her neck. She scratched him in the face and he ended up fleeing out the fire escape.

Officers were able to locate Farley and place him under arrest. Farley stated the victim had kicked him and he struck her leg. When she started yelling, he hit her.

Each of the second-degree assault charges carries a maximum possible sentence, if convicted, of seven years in prison and/or a $14,000 fine, but a minimum sentence of one year and one day in prison.

The domestic assault charge carries a maximum sentence, if convicted, of three years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
