The filing period for city and school district elections expired at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with a handful of contested races in the area shaping up.
Windom will have a contested race for city council member at large, with incumbent Dennis Esplan challenged by Janice Vitcak. Ward I council member Jenny Quade and Ward II member James Nelson will run unopposed.
Three candidates filed for the three four-year terms on the Windom School Board, with Angela Klassen and Brianne Miller filing for re-election. Brittany Higley also filed for election.
Mt. Lake will have a contested race for city council, with four candidates for two seats. Incumbents Bryan Bargen and Andrew Ysker are joined on the ballot by newcomers Emily Mathiowetz and Brittany Winters.
Meanwhile, seven candidates filed for three four-year terms on the Mt. Lake school board. Incumbents Julie Brugman and Matthew Gohr filed for re-election, while newcomers Lindsey Brockberg, Derek Harder, Jordan Kirk, Jason Kruser and Ricardo Renteria also filed candidacy.
One of the three precincts in the Red Rock Central school district will have a contested election, with Megan Imker and Madelaine Posusta on the ballot in Precinct 1 (Lamberton).
Other last-minute filings for offices included:
- Brad Prins filed for election as mayor of Jeffers, while Shawna Dorr-Jones and Sheila Ryker filed for election to two four-year city council terms.
- Sean Waters filed for election to a four-year term on the Storden City Council, joining David Hansen on the ballot. Two council seats are on the ballot.
- Three candidates filed for election to the Westbrook-Walnut Grove School Board. Filing are Denise Clouse, Jack Jorgenson and Greg Madson.
- Three candidates filed for election to the Heron Lake-Okabena School Board, with Mark Fest, Annie Rasche and John Volk filing for election.
