Parts of the city of Windom were without power for roughly two hours Sunday morning, as a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the area caused a power outage.
Windom Electric Superintendent Jason Sykora reported that shortly before 6:30 a.m., the thunderstorm’s winds caused a large tree branch to strike a power line along Sixth Street just east of the intersection with Olson Avenue.
Three loud pops were heard in the area before the power went out. Power was quickly restored to areas east of the river.
Crews were quickly dispatched to the scene to remove the branch and repair the line, with power being restored at around 8:20 a.m.
Roughly 284 customers were affected.
The outage impacted much of the Rolling Green area of Windom. The outage prompted Windom Methodist Church to cancel its first service Sunday morning due to the power outage.
