A 29-year-old man from Slayton was killed and three people were injured in a three-vehicle accident that took place Friday afternoon at the intersection of Cottonwood County Roads 7 and 13 south of Westbrook.
According to the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department, officers were dispatched at 1:12 p.m. A 1998 Mack semi, driven by James Beeck of Fulda, was southbound on County Road 7. A 2019 Buick, driven by Julianne Paplow of Dundee was northbound on County Road 7. A 2010 Subaru, driven by Sean Goodman of Slayton, was eastbound on County Road 13.
Goodman reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection and was struck by the semi. The Buick was then struck as the Subaru and semi entered the south ditch.
Beeck, Paplow and Paplow’s passenger, a 12-year-old, were each transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Goodman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Westbrook Fire Department, Westbrook Ambulance, Westbrook Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Fulda Ambulance, Cottonwood County Highway Department and Windom Towing.
