The Windom Pirates rebounded from their first loss of the season in a big way Wednesday night, pouncing on Fairmont early and rolling to a 10-0 victory at Island Park.
The Pirates did much of their damage with two outs, with their first eight runs of the game coming after two outs had been recorded in the inning.
In the first inning, Drew Rothenberger hit an RBI single and Alex Fink laced a two-run single, giving the Pirates a quick 3-0 lead.
Windom then plated five runs in the second inning. Jake Tauer reached on an infield single, with an errant throw allowing Kobe Lovell to score. Keenan Wenzel, Chase McDaniel and Rothenberger followed with consecutive RBI doubles and Fink hit an RBI single, pushing the Pirate lead to 8-0.
Windom’s final runs came in the third inning. Brett Willaby hit an RBI double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Quintin Tietz sacrifice fly.
Wenzel, McDaniel, Rothenberger, Fink and Lovell each had two hits in the win.
Luke Gilbertson went six strong innings on the mound for the victory, scattering five hits and three walks while striking out two.
