A Butterfield man is dead and his wife suffered life-threatening injuries following a car/semi collision Saturday morning near Butterfield.
According to the State Patrol, the accident was reported at 10:52 a.m. and took place at the intersection of Highway 60 and 660th Avenue in Butterfield Township.
A 2024 Ford Bronco, driven by 83-year-old Wayne Hanson of Butterfield, was southbound on 660th Avenue. A 2023 Peterbilt semi, driven by Richard Sanow of Marshall, was westbound on Highway 60. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Hanson was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 83-year-old Zelda Hanson of Butterfield, was transported to the St. James hospital with what were deemed life-threatening injuries.
Sanow was not injured in the crash.
Assisting the State Patrol at the scene were the Butterfield Fire Department, Watonwan County Sheriff’s Department, St. James Police Department and Mayo Clinic Health Systems St. James Ambulance.
