A parade of hits didn’t result in many runs for the Windom Pirates Wednesday night, but the Pirates were able to stay unbeaten for the season by rallying for a 4-2 10-inning win over the Fox Lake Foxes in Truman.
Windom got on the board in the top of the first on a Keenan Wenzel sacrifice fly, but Fox Lake took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run.
In the eighth, Quintin Tietz singled, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 2-2.
The Pirates then went small in the top of the 10th to take the lead. With the First Nite/Gopher League’s adoption of Major League Baseball’s extra-inning rules, Jake Tauer was placed on second base to start the 10th. Luke Gilbertson put down a bunt, with the attempt to throw Tauer out at third base going wide, allowing Tauer to score and Gilbertson to reach second.
Gilbertson then took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Brett Willaby sacrifice fly.
Collin Lovell recorded three strikeouts in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win for the Pirates.
Chase McDaniel and Drew Rothenberger each had four hits in the win. Tietz finished with three hits.
Lovell worked three innings of no-hit relief to pick up the win. He walked three and struck out eight.
