Class A State Golf Tournament
The high school golf season came to a conclusion Wednesday afternoon at the Class A State Tournament, played at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey sophomore Nevaeh Ott wrapped up the season by finishing in a tie for 20th at the state tournament with a two-day score of 172. Ott opened the tournament with an 85 on Tuesday, then shot an 87 in the second round.
Red Rock Central junior Jorga Brown rebounded from a rough opening round to finish with a two-day score of 184, putting her in a tie for 37th place. Brown opened the tournament with a 102 Tuesday, then bounced back to shoot an 82 during Wednesday’s second round.
Likewise, MLAC sophomore Amiyah Oakland turned in a strong final round Wednesday, finishing with a two-day score of 205 to finish in a tie for 61st place. Oakland, in her state tournament debut, shot an opening-round 109 on Tuesday, then turned in a solid score of 96 in Wednesday’s final round.
The lone boys’ qualifier from the area, RRC senior Finn Batalden, finished with a two-day score of 177 to finish in 75th place. Batalden shot an opening-round 83, then finished with a second-day score of 94 to wrap up his high school career.
Dawson-Boyd captured the girls team championship with a two-day score of 678. Heritage Christian Academy shot a 708 to finish as state runner-up.
Heritage Christian Academy captured the boys state championship, shooting a two-day score of 603. Central Minnesota Christian was the state runner-up, shooting a 610.
Individually, Heritage Christian sophomore Aly Bormes was the girls state champion, finishing with a two-day score of eight-over-par 152. Hope Reid of Community Christian was the state runner-up with a 156.
Heritage Christian senior Alex Rhode was the boys individual state champion with a score of one-under-par 143. Jeffrey Simonson of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton was the runner-up with a score of 148.
