Windom residents are asked to stay clear of the area near the intersection of Ninth Street and First Avenue, near Schwalbach Hardware, at least for the time being.
According to Jordan Bussa of the Windom Fire Department, a machine hit a gas line during the First Avenue construction project, shortly after 5:45 p.m. this evening. Firefighters and the Windom Ambulance Department have been on the scene since that time.
The gas leak has caused nearby businesses to close. The entire area has been barricaded and firefighters are encouraging people to stay away from the affected area.
“The Highway (60-71) is open,” Bussa added. “It is unknown when this will be fixed.”
