The Windom City Council approved a motion to sell the Windomnet telecommunications utility at last Tuesday’s meeting, but voted down a decision on who to sell it to.
Following a closed session, the council voted down a motion by Jayesun Sherman to not sell Windomnet. Sherman and Dennis Esplan voted in favor of the motion, while Scott Benson, Jim Nelson and Jenny Quade voted against.
A motion was then made to sell Windomnet, which was approved 3-2, with Benson, Nelson and Quade voting in favor.
However, a motion was made to sell the utility to Federated Broadband. Benson and Quade voted in favor, while Esplan, Nelson and Sherman voted against the proposal.
The council passed a final motion to negotiate with each of the three suitors that made presentations to purchase Windomnet: Federated, Midco and Southwest Broadband.
