Section 2A South
Windom, Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey and Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin each took part in the Section 2A South track and field meet, held Thursday at St. James.
The top eight individual finishers in each event, plus the top four finishers in each relay event, advance to the Section 2A Meet, which will be held May 30 at Janesville.
Windom’s boys finished sixth in the team standings with 49 points. MLAC was eighth with 39. MCWBO was 12th with 18. Maple River won the team title with 127 points.
For the girls, Windom finished 10th with 33 points. MCWBO was 11th with 23 points. MLAC was 12th with 21 points. Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton/Waterville-Elysian-Morristown won the team title with 116 points.
Windom
Windom’s boys were paced by the 4×800 relay team of Bryce Green, Caelen Ralston, Isaac Bordewyk and Braylen Lyons, which placed first (8:58.00).
Windom also advanced in the 4×400 relay, with the team of Elliot Serreyn, Green, Ralston and Lyons finishing fourth (3:37.96).
Individually, Lyons placed second in the 800 (2:03.49) with Green seventh (2:08.52). Elliot Serreyn placed third in the high jump (5-10). Trent Rothenberger placed fourth in the shot put (46-0). Ralston took sixth in the 1,600 (4:49.94) with Nolan Tjentland eighth (4:51.03). Gavin Hetterich placed sixth in the 100 (12.13) and eighth in the 200 (24.81). Tyson Ysker was seventh in the 400 (56.52). Kieran Anderson was seventh in the 3,200 (11:27.92). Royce Smith finished eighth in the discus (120-9).
The Eagle girls advanced by placing fourth in the 4×100 relay, with the team of Makenzi Meyeraan, Emma Klassen, Macee Duerksen and Haidyn Sammons finishing in 53.84.
Individually, Theora Ahnupkana led the way for the Eagles, placing second in the discus (117-5) and fifth in the shot put (31-6¾). Lilly Meyer was third in the discus (113-1). Meyeraan finished fifth in the 100 (13.18). Sammons finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (51.17). Marlee Fester placed eighth in the shot put (29-7).
MLAC
MLAC’s boys were led by double-event champion Cooper Evers, who won the 800 (2:02.58) and the 1,600 (4:34.84). Joseph Torres placed second in the 1,600 (4:37.85) and fourth in the 800 (2:06.95). Cameron Meyer placed fifth in the high jump (5-9). Sutter Green was seventh in the discus (121-5).
For the girls, the 4×800 relay team of Katie Johnson, Hannah Beyer, Anna Schrock and Gracie Peters finished third (10:31.70).
Individually, Peters captured first place in the 400 (1:01.01). Johnson was fourth in the 1,600 (5:49.33).
MCWBO
The MCWBO boys were led by Hank Olson’s fifth-place finish in the shot put (45-7¾). Lixon Forsberg added an eighth-place finish in the long jump (18-8½). Hayden O’Connor placed eighth in the triple jump (34-2½).
For the girls, Mylee Larson led the way, placing fifth in the discus (94-6) and sixth in the shot put (30-7¾). Evelynn Christenson was fifth in the 3,200 (12:30.89). Jaylee Hanson was fifth in the high jump (4-9). Hannah Cole placed seventh in the long jump (14-5¾).
Section 3A Central
Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central’s boys and girls each placed sixth in the team standings at the Section 3A Central Meet, held Thursday at Redwood Falls.
The top four finishers in each individual and relay event automatically qualify for the Section 3A Meet, which will be held May 28 at Pipestone. To get the field to 16 participants in each event, the remaining four spots are determined on a wild card basis, with the best non-automatic-qualifier results from the three combined sub-sections.
The Charger girls scored 51 points. BOLD/BLHS won the team title with 139 points.
The Charger boys finished with 68 points. Redwood Valley won the team title with 131 points.
For the Charger girls, the 4×800 relay team of Paige Wondercheck, Addison Warner, Amana Smith and Riley Alms automatically qualified for sections, finishing fourth (11:25.11).
Individually, Miranda Mischke led the way, capturing first in the high jump (4-10). Ally Linder placed second in the shot put (31-5½). Asa Olson was fourth in the triple jump (29-3¾).
The Charger girls also had three wild card qualifying performances. Alexis Vang finished fifth in the discus (88-9). Warner placed sixth in the 1,600 (6:04.66). The 4×100 relay team of Addison Voge, Mayah Wahl, Aubree Craine and Keileana Embrey also placed sixth (55.52).
For the boys, the 4×400 relay team of Kaden Duerksen, Mua Vang, Sebastian Yang and Evan Lor placed third (4:42.39) to automatically qualify for sections.
Individually, Bowen Hesse led the Chargers by winning the 110 hurdles (16.11) and taking second in the 300 hurdles (46.51). Grant Binnebose won the triple jump (36-1¼). Adrian Yang was second in the pole vault (12-4). Riley Cowden was fourth in the 400 (1:00.99).
