Cottonwood County and much of southwest Minnesota continues to experience an extreme risk of wildfires. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for 37 counties in the state, including Cottonwood County.
A red flag warning means fires can spread quickly due to dry conditions, low relative humidity and strong winds. Residents should not burn in areas a red flag warning is in place and should check any recent burning activity to ensure fires are completely extinguished.
In addition, the DNR will not issue or activate burning permits and discourages campfires during a red flag warning.
