The Windom Eagle softball team couldn’t slow down Pipestone’s hot hitting Tuesday, as the Arrows swept a doubleheader at Pipestone by scores of 15-3 and 15-7.
In the opener, Pipestone slugged four home runs, including a game-ending three-run home run to win via the 10-run rule.
Windom got on the board in the first on a Brita Tjentland RBI groundout. Then, the Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Addison Evans hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.
But the Arrows hit a home run in the fourth, then hit a pair of home runs in the fifth and plated seven runs in the sixth to end the game.
Anja Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing 16 hits and striking out four.
The Arrow longballs continued in the nightcap, as Pipestone hit two more home runs on its way to a 15-7 win.
The Arrows jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run home run, but the Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the second. Ember Struck and Gracie Buckentin hit RBI singles, Miranda Peterson hit a run-scoring groundout and Tjentland hit an RBI double.
Trailing 6-4 in the fourth, Windom cut the deficit to one on an Alivia Letcher RBI single.
Sadie Tjentland hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth and Evans drove in Windom’s final run with a single.
Evans and Buckentin had two hits each in the loss.
Nielsen allowed 18 hits and two walks while fanning five.

The Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey softball team split a unique doubleheader Tuesday, with the Wolverines defeating Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 17-3 in Mt. Lake, then hopping on the bus to Springfield, where the Wolverines fell 7-5.
In the opener, the Wolverines pounced in the early innings, scoring nine times in the first and six in the second on its way to a 17-3 victory over HLOF.
In the opening inning, Ashlyn Pfeiffer hit a two-run single, Kelby Janzen had a sacrifice fly, Kathryn Wassman and Julia Brinkman hit RBI singles, Ellamae Peters drew a bases-loaded walk and Phithsada Phoumivong unloaded the bases with a three-run triple.
In the second, MLAC padded the lead on an error, two bases-loaded walks, a two-run single from Pfeiffer and a wild pitch.
MLAC scored its final runs in the third on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single from Peters.
Phoumivong, Pfeiffer and Wassman had two hits each in the win.
Pfeiffer picked up the pitching win, scattering five hits and three walks while striking out five.
In the nightcap, the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Kylie Phommachan hit a two-run double.
But Springfield capitalized on extra outs in the second inning, scoring all seven of its runs to take a 7-2 lead.
MLAC added a run on an error in the third. Mikaya Schroeder hit an RBI triple in the fourth and Phommachan had an RBI triple in the fifth.
Pfeiffer and Phommachan each had a pair of hits in the loss.

Adrian/Ellsworth stayed tied with Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey atop the Red Rock Conference standings Tuesday following a 6-1 win over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Ellsworth.
The Dragons jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after two innings and held the Falcon offense in check throughout.
RRC/WWG scored its lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning on a Kennedy Carter RBI single.
Carlie Ross took the pitching loss, allowing eight hits and four walks while fanning six.
