Three big innings proved to be enough for the Windom Eagle baseball team Tuesday, as the Eagles surged to a 15-8 victory over Luverne at Island Park, giving the Eagles a season sweep of the Cardinals.
Windom raced to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, only to see the Cardinals rally for six in the second. But trailing 7-6 in the fourth, the Eagles regained the lead with four runs. Windom then iced the win with a five-run sixth.
The Eagles jumped to the lead in the first. Soren Nielsen hit a ground-rule RBI double, Easton Piotter unloaded a bases-clearing triple and Joe Walinga had an RBI single.
In the third, the Eagles scored when Piotter reached on an error.
After Luverne took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth, the Eagles took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Stevie Meyer launched a three-run home run to center field and Piotter scored on a throwing error, giving the Eagles a 10-7 lead.
In the sixth, Piotter hit a two-run double, Voehl plated a run on a squeeze bunt, Matt Redman hit an RBI single and a run scored on a balk.
Hayden Tietz, Nielsen, Meyer, Piotter and Redman all had two hits for the Eagles.
Tietz picked up the pitching win, working 4-⅓ innings in relief. He allowed three hits, walked one and struck out five.

Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey got off to a strong start and scored in four of its six trips to the plate Tuesday, claiming a 6-1 win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at Mt. Lake.
After HLOF scored in the top of the first, the Wolverines scored six unanswered runs, starting in the bottom of the first. Khalid Fontanez hit an RBI single and Jason Wright smacked an RBI double.
In the third, the Wolverines scored a run on an error. Then, in the fifth, Thomas Hesse scored on the back end of a double steal.
The Wolverines closed out the scoring in the sixth on an RBI single from Tryton Khounsanthone and an RBI double from Landon Simon.
Simon, Ram Vasquez and Khounsanthone each had two hits in the win.
Fontanez twirled a complete-game three-hitter, allowing four walks and striking out eight.
