Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey took an early lead and closed things out in strong fashion Thursday, rolling to a 16-1 four-inning victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Mt. Lake.
The Wolverines sent 10 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the second, scoring five times.
Then, after RRC/WWG scored in the top of the fourth, the Wolverines sent 15 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, ending the game by mercy rule by scoring 11 times.
MLAC got on the board in the second on back-to-back Falcon errors, an RBI groundout from Kathryn Wassman, a sacrifice fly from Mikaya Schroeder and a throwing error.
RRC/WWG’s lone run came in the fourth on a Carlie Ross RBI double.
In the bottom of the fourth, Phithsada Phoumivong ripped a bases-clearing double, Nadia Phommachan drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by RBI singles from Kelby Janzen and Wassman. A run scored on a wild pitch, followed by a two-run Julia Brinkman double. The Wolverines ended the game on back-to-back bases-loaded walks.
Brinkman and Ellamae Peters each had two hits in the win.
Ross had two hits in the loss for the Falcons.
Ashlyn Pfeiffer held the Falcons to three hits and struck out four in the win.
Ross took the loos, allowing nine hits and eight walks while striking out one.
