A fast start highlighted a milestone day for the Windom Eagle softball team Thursday, as the Eagles rolled to a 10-1 victory at Marshall.
The Eagles raced to a commanding lead early, with four runs in each of the first two innings.
That was plenty of support for pitcher Anja Nielsen, who held the Tigers to four hits and struck out 10, giving her over 700 strikeouts for her high school career.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the first. Nielsen ripped an RBI single, Addison Evans added a two-run single and Sadie Tjentland hit an RBI double for a quick 4-0 lead.
In the second, Brita Tjentland laced a two-run double, Nielsen added an RBI double and Evans hit an RBI single, giving the Eagles an 8-0 lead.
Brita Tjentland plated a run with a groundout in the third and Sadie Tjentland added an RBI single in the fourth, giving the Eagles a 10-0 lead.
Alivia Letcher, Nielsen and Evans each had three hits in the win for the Eagles.
Nielsen scattered four hits, walked two and struck out 10 in the win.

State-ranked Jackson County Central silenced the Windom Eagle offense Friday, as the Huskies swept a doubleheader from the Eagles at the Windom Recreation Area, winning 7-0 and 7-1.
In the opener, JCC raced to a quick lead with two runs in the first and four in the second.
The Eagles did not get a baserunner until a two-out walk in the fourth inning. A single by Anja Nielsen in the bottom of the seventh gave the Eagles their only hit of the game.
Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing 10 hits and three walks while striking out four.
In the nightcap, the Eagles had runners on base throughout the game but couldn’t come up with timely hits to drive runners home.
Meanwhile, the Huskies scored three times in the first and three more times in the third, taking control of the game.
The lone Eagle run of the game came in the top of the sixth inning, when Miranda Peterson hit an RBI single.
Ember Struck, Nielsen and Peterson each had two hits in the loss.
Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing nine hits and striking out two.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn’t hold an early lead Friday, as Renville County West surged to a 10-3 win at Danube.
RRC/WWG led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third, but the Jaguars plated seven runs to take the lead, then added three insurance runs in the fifth.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the second inning. Then, in the third, Leah Carter and DeAnn Roiger hit back-to-back RBI doubles for a 3-0 lead.
RCW answered with a big third inning, tying the game on an error and two bases-loaded walks before a pair of two-run doubles.
Carlie Ross had two hits in the loss. She also took the pitching loss, allowing 10 hits and 10 walks while striking out six.

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian broke the game open in the middle innings Thursday, coasting to an 8-1 win over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Edgerton.
The Dutchmen plated a pair of runs in the fourth, then scored five times in the fifth and once in the sixth to build an 8-0 lead.
The lone Falcon run scored in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch.
Carlie Ross took the pitching loss, allowing nine hits and two walks while striking out 10.
