A classic pitcher’s duel saw the Windom Eagles escape with a 3-0 victory Tuesday over Redwood Valley at Island Park.
Windom senior Joe Walinga tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout, walking one and striking out six.
Meanwhile, Cardinal eighth-grader Luke Kaupang held the Eagles to three hits and struck out 10, but six walks came back to haunt the Cardinals.
Redwood Valley had its best threat to score right off the bat, starting the game by loading the bases on a single and two errors with no outs. But a pair of strikeouts and a pop-out ended the threat. The Cardinals did not get another runner past second base in the game, as Walinga retired the final 13 batters he faced.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first. Hayden Tietz drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on a Jackson Joyce sacrifice fly.
The Eagles did not record a base hit until the bottom of the sixth, starting the inning with a single and back-to-back bunt singles. Windom then scored on back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Matthew Voehl and Easton Piotter.

Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey’s three-game win streak was snapped Tuesday, as Adrian/Ellsworth claimed an 8-3 victory at Adrian.
The Wolverines took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A run scored when Khalid Fontanez reached on an error and Heber Morales hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly.
But the Dragons answered, sending 10 hitters to the plate and scoring five times in the bottom of the first, then adding two more in the second.
MLAC’s final run scored on a Thomas Hesse RBI single in the third.
Hesse had three of the Wolverines’ four hits in the game.
Tryton Khounsanthone took the pitching loss, working the first three innings. He allowed seven runs on five hits, walked five and struck out two.

A shaky outing in the field doomed Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday, as the Falcons fell 13-6 to Yellow Medicine East at Lamberton.
YME rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring 11 runs in the final three innings. The Falcons committed four errors and had several wild pitches in the final three innings.
RRC/WWG got on the board in the first inning on a Jake Erickson RBI double.
In the third, the Falcons took a 5-2 lead. Erickson and Easton Jenniges each hit RBI singles and Trenton Blomgren and Carter Therkilsen plated runs with fielder’s choices.
The final Falcon run scored on a Braxton Weber RBI groundout.
Jackson Jenniges and Erickson each had three hits in the loss.
Jackson Jenniges took the pitching loss, working the first 5-⅔ innings. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three.
