The Windom Eagle baseball team picked up a pair of Big South Conference victories Friday, sweeping a doubleheader from Blue Earth Area by scores of 14-4 and 14-2 at Island Park.
In the opener, the Eagles blew the game open with an eight-run fourth inning, then closed out a walk-off win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Stevie Meyer got the Eagles on the board with an RBI single in the first. Then, in the second, Hayden Tietz hit a two-run triple and Jackson Joyce followed with an RBI triple for a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, Windom got a run on a throwing error, then had RBI singles from Tietz, Soren Nielsen, Meyer and Joe Walinga. Windom got a run on a wild pitch. Easton Piotter plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Tietz added an RBI double.
Windom closed out the win with RBI singles from Piotter and Ben Ludewig.
Tietz finished with three hits in the win.
Meyer picked up the pitching win, allowing one hit and four walks while fanning eight.
In the nightcap, the Eagles jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Meyer hit an RBI single and Piotter added a two-run double.
In the second, Joyce hit an RBI single, Meyer added a two-run triple and Walinga plated a run on a groundout for a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles added six more runs in the third. Gavin McNamara hit an RBI single, Joyce had a two-run double, Nielsen hit a two-run single and Matthew Voehl added an RBI single.
Windom’s final run scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
Walinga worked two scoreless innings for the pitching win, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three.

For the second time in four days, Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey walked off with a win on a wild pitch Friday, this time defeating Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian 5-4 in Mt. Lake.
In the bottom of the seventh, Khalid Fontanez drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.
MLAC took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run Heber Morales single.
Then, in the third, MLAC scored a pair of runs when Ram Vasquez reached on a fielder’s choice.
ESWC tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth, but the game remained tied until the Wolverines scored the walk-off win.
Fontanez picked up the pitching win, scattering nine hits and a walk while striking out six.
RTR 010 083 = 12-8-1
RRC/WWG 000 000 = 0-2-3
A close game went sideways quickly for Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Friday, as Russell-Tyler-Ruthton surged late for a 12-0 victory.
RTR led 1-0 going into the fifth inning, when the Knights plated eight runs, with the big blow being a three-run home run.
RTR added three runs in the top of the sixth. All 12 runs for the Knights in the game were unearned.
Meanwhile, RRC/WWG was held to two hits and had only two runners in scoring position in the game.
Jordan Therkilsen took the loss, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out three.
