Jonathan R. Johnsen, 53, of Westbrook, has been charged in Cottonwood County District Court with first-degree controlled substance crime — sale of 17 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to the criminal complaint, a search following a traffic stop in Lyon County resulted in the discovery of a baggie of methamphetamine. The driver stated he had been at his uncle’s residence in Watertown, South Dakota earlier in the day. His uncle wanted to purchase some meth and arranged to purchase from Johnson at his home in Westbrook for $460. The purchase was made about an hour prior to the vehicle being stopped.
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the driver’s phone and was able to identify Johnsen’s phone number in the phone. Coordinates from the phone also showed he was near Johnsen’s residence in Westbrook at the time he indicated.
The baggie was sent to the BCA lab for testing, confirming the baggie contained 27.894 grams of methamphetamine.
If convicted, Johnsen faces a maximum possible sentence of 30 years in prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine.
